Arjun’s Inspiring Journey to Germany
Today’s agenda is a little different. Instead of sharing the usual tips for finding a job abroad, let’s dive into an inspiring, real-life story filled with determination, setbacks, and resilience.
Meet Arjun
Arjun, a digital marketer and member of Career Designing Academy, had two and a half years of experience in India. His clear goal? To start a new chapter in Germany. Determined to make it happen, he applied to German companies from India, completed multiple interview rounds, and finally received an incredible job offer with an annual salary of €45,600—just above the Blue Card threshold. Thrilled, he gave notice at his current job, ready for the move.
Visa Application Journey
After booking an appointment at the New Delhi embassy, Arjun gathered all required documents—his CV, proof of qualifications, experience certificates, educational recognition from the Anabin database, travel health insurance, and application form—and attended his visa interview. Confident in his preparation, he submitted everything and was told to expect a response in two weeks.
But as weeks passed with no reply, Arjun grew anxious and contacted the embassy, only to be told, “Please wait until a decision is made.” After waiting longer, he finally received an email stating his passport was ready for collection. However, upon opening it, he found no visa—his application had been rejected.
The reason? The rejection letter stated that his salary didn’t meet the Blue Card criteria—even though his offer technically exceeded the threshold. Disheartened, Arjun immediately reached out for advice, hoping there was a way forward.
A Bold Step Forward
After reviewing the rejection letter, I suggested that Arjun reach out to his future employer, explaining the situation and requesting a potential salary adjustment to strengthen his application. Taking the initiative, Arjun crafted a thoughtful email to his employer:
Subject: Request for Salary Adjustment to Support Blue Card Visa Approval
Dear [Employer’s Name],
I hope this message finds you well. I am reaching out regarding a challenge with my Blue Card visa application. After submitting my documents, I was notified that my application was unfortunately rejected, citing that my salary does not meet the Blue Card requirements—even though it aligns with the threshold.
I am very motivated to join [Company Name] and contribute to our goals in Germany. Given the circumstances, would it be possible to adjust the salary to a higher level? I believe this would improve the chances of a successful petition and ensure that I can begin my role as planned.
Thank you very much for considering my request. Please let me know if there’s anything else I can provide to help with this process.
Warm regards,
Arjun
The Results of Persistence
To Arjun’s relief, his employer was understanding and supportive. They saw his potential and value, and after some follow-ups, offered him a revised contract with a higher salary. With the new contract in hand, we filed the petition and resubmitted the application.
After another waiting period, Arjun’s patience was finally rewarded. Three weeks later, he received the decision he’d been hoping for: his visa was approved!
A Lesson in Persistence and Action
Arjun’s story reminds us that the road to achieving dreams abroad can be unpredictable and challenging. But with persistence, clear communication, and a proactive approach, almost any obstacle can be overcome. Instead of waiting and worrying, take action—just as Arjun did—and you may find the results you’re hoping for.
